I didn't want to post about this until I found a definite supplier in Ottawa, but I just managed it today, so...

Nature's Variety makes a rabbit-based version of their Instinct grain-free kibble. (webpage here, 40% protein, 22% fat, 2.4% fiber, ingredients Rabbit Meal, Chicken Meal, Salmon Meal, Herring Meal, Tapioca, Chicken Fat (naturally preserved with Mixed Tocopherols and Citric Acid), Pumpkinseeds, Sun-Cured Alfalfa Meal, Tomato Pomace, Montmorillonite Clay, Sunflower Oil, Natural Chicken Flavor, Brewers Yeast... etc etc etc) I'd been interested in trying it for a while, but hadn't seen it anywhere. Then, while visiting family in Wisconsin, I picked up a bag in a shop. Roxy, our poor little sickie who has EVERYTHING (including what seemed to be a permanent case of diarrhea) took to it immediately, and her poops very quickly started looking better. We switched the kids over to only this kibble, and suddenly she went from watery brown on good days and watery GREEN on bad days to something actually approaching normal ferret poop. The only downside so far is that one of our other ferrets doesn't like it, so now we have to have THREE food dishes in the cage. (two with the Instinct, since Roxy has some hind end weakness from insulinoma and can't move super well sometimes, and one with Orijen for Hardy the picky ferret.)

Unfortunately, this stuff is kind of hard to find. Global Pet Foods on Bank can order it in and have been struggling mightily to do so, but their supplier didn't send them any for some reason. Critter Jungle has a number of the 4.4lb bags in for about $18 with tax.

I'm glad to hear that Roxy's poop's are stating to look better. I'm sure her bum feels better for it too! I'll have to give it a try on my guys. They didn't really take to the regular "Instinct" maybe they'll like this one more? As always, your eagle eyes for new products is appreciated.
