Title: Hoping to adopt soon :)
Post by: AHoward8 on February 25, 2012, 04:53:36 PM
Hello everyone! I'm brand new to the forum, so I figured I would take a minute to introduce myself :) I'm Ashley, and I'm hoping to adopt a little fuzzbut of my own very soon!!

I've put in my adoption application about a week ago, but things sure have been slow moving. Haven't heard a peep back yet.. not sure if this is normal or not? I've tried calling and emailing and no luck yet! We had hoped to get an appointment to meet with some foster families/fuzzies this weekend, but at this rate that doesn't look like it's going to happen..

I couldn't be more excited to add a ferret (or two!) to our home! We currently have two cats and a lovable Siberian Husky, and are also "cat sitting" my boyfriends cat. It's a full house, and I wouldn't have it any other way.  :D

I have co-owned a ferret in the past, but sadly she was taken from me when my ex and I split up. It was incredibly difficult on me, as I had grown very very attached to her. That was about 4 years ago now, and I'm now more than ready to open up my home to a new little fuzzy, who will be spoiled rotten you can be sure! Both my boyfriend and I have been around various animals all our lives, and I honestly couldn't live in a home without pets! They add so much to a home, and on those days when I'm feeling a bit out of sorts, they can always cheer me up :)
And on a side note, this afternoon we went into the Carlingwood petstore. Not a good idea! We were in the area and needed some kitty litter, so we went in. They had one little ferret in there, and my heart went out to him. No toys at all in his cage, no hammocks or soft bedding, and regular old kitty litter in a box. Poor thing! I tried to kindly speak to the girl running the store (who looked to be about 20, and dumb as nails..) and tell her that he needed proper ventilation and toys, and that the litter they provided could cause respiratory problems.. and she just stared at me and said he's perfectly well taken care of and loves his cage. Blah blah blah. He was in a large fish tank style cage, with another right on top of his. I wonder how he gets any air in there at all! I was so heartbroken I wanted to buy him on the spot.. but I fought the urge and walked out. It's appalling how they treat those animals :( Ah, well that's my rant! Certainly didn't intend for that to happen!

Well, we both hope we're contacted soon, as I'm looking forward to bringing home our new little one. Does anyone have any idea how long, on average, it takes to hear something back? I would have thought 1-2 days or so, but we're going on 5 or 6 now!

We're both looking forward to the upcoming FerretFest on the 24th of March on a happier note! I would love to volunteer, and hopefully we have our own fuzzy to bring along with us. It seems like a fantastic place to meet new people as well!

Geesh that's a long one! I tend to go on and on when excited :P Ha ha Looking forward to chatting with you all!

Hi Ashley,

All the folks working with the rescue are volunteers so sometimes it takes a little while to hear back.  Please be patient with them - they are taking care of their own work, families and of course caring for our shelter / foster ferrets and sometimes there just aren't enough hours in the day!

Well it's my turn to offer public apologies to all our supporters and volunteers...

I who have unfortunately been unable to keep up with all our incoming emails due to a major computer crash about three weeks ago.  In addition to this I was in the midst of starting a new job and was in training with no computer access at work.

The FRSO board suffered a scare at Christmas.  One of our board members has had some serious health issues and we are trying to help out in any way we can.

All this to say...I wanted to thank everyone involved who helped pull together to get us back on track. I appreciate the help:) Thanks for taking over all the emails Beth, even if it's only temporary:) Thanks for getting me a temporary laptop, albeit an ancient one.  I can at least write and check emails and not have to stay at work till 9PM to do so:) Thanks to Lynn for making all the email changes so quickly:) Thanks to Jess and Ali for taking over the FerretFest organization, don't know what we'd do without you:) And thanks to the support from Annie and Louise, as always:)

I know a lot of you have offered to help out for FerretFest, so I'll be able to thank you all in person:)

On a happier note, Ashley, thank you for giving Lune (prev.Guidoune) and Tristan a "forever home". They couldn't have found a better new "mom and dad":)
