Title: September 2008
Post by: Weezilwitch on September 21, 2008, 05:19:18 PM
Hi-hi!  Mommy says if I have so much energy I can write the foster update this month, 'cause she's tired out.

So I am Bailey, and I am 2 years old.  I have been at my new foster Mommy's place since the end of August.  So far I escaped the ferret rooms twice, but Mommy changed the litterboxes around so I can't get out any more until I come up with a new way.  I like to climb things, and every time a chair or box gets moved, I go see where I can get to now.  So I've spilled some stuff, and broken some stuff, including a special jar that had ashes in it from another ferret - I don't know if I believe that, because it sounds weird, but that's what Mommy said.  I went to visit Auntie Lynn for four days while Mommy went to a place called Waterloo, and I liked being there - Auntie Lynn says I can fly, just because I jumped from her bed to the window seat.  It wasn't that hard!  I like blueberries a whole lot, and Mommy let me steal two teeny ones, but mostly she doesn't share her snacks with me, even though I like to try all kinds of food.  Also I cough and splutter a lot, but I went to the vet maybe a hundred times and I took all the nasty medicine in the world and got tons of needles and I still do it, so now I just get left alone.  And mostly I feel just fine.

My friend that I live with is Freddy, he is 5 years old, and he is nice except he doesn't play as much as I do.  He likes to sleep more, and he doesn't know how to climb to the top of our cage, but Mommy let him climb up a blanket that was hanging on the hammock chair so he could play with me there.  He could only get up like that because Mommy was holding the blanket out with her hands, but Freddy didn't figure that out, and he tried to get down by himself and fell off!  Silly Freddy!  Freddy is boring, he doesn't even like treats, but I guess boys are just weird.  Oh - Mommy says I should mention that he is all healthy with no problems.

There are other ferrets here, but we don't get to see them any more, because Freddy and I both tried to beat them up.  One of them is Pippin, and Mommy tells me that Pippin is another foster and that I should say that Pippin is doing fine, and now she goes out with Charlotte and Elise so that Freddy and I can have more time out together, so I guess that is nice.

So maybe I will write more next month, but for this month that is all, and Mommy needs to go clean up poopies, because Freddy and I don't always use the litterboxes, but that's because these other ferrets don't seem to use them much either.

P.S. Mommy was only on her trip for three days but she asked Auntie Lynn to keep us for one more day because she needed to rest - can you believe that?

My group of fosters expanded to 6 this past month as Pepsi and Romeo have now taken up residence here.  These guys were way under weight, but since we've put them on a better diet and daily doses of soup, they've both started gaining weight and looking/acting like normal 2 year old ferrets (they're a lot of fun to play with - a nice change for me).  Pepsi has reportedly tried to nip peoples faces, but hasn't even hinted at it with me (although he does take flying leaps at my feet as I leave the room).  He's also been known to latch on to other ferrets really hard and refuse to let go.

The rest of the gang is still hanging in there.  Chase received a double dose of Lupron this month to try and keep his symptoms under control.  Peewee hasn't crashed for over a month, which is a very good thing.  Mr. Jingles spends most of the days sleeping as he doesn't have any energy to move around.  The twice a week dose of Lasix (in addition to his daily dose of Enacard) has helped reduce his wheezing symptoms that result from his heart condition.  Cricket is still active, and would really love to attach herself to the new guys (literaly, with gusto).  Given Pepsi's past behavior, I don't think I want to find out what would happen if she got into the cage with the new boys.

Woo!

Monty and Sambo....
What can be said about these two except that they are halarious!!
When you get the two of them going, it is much cause for halarity.

Since we've had them (and only them) they have full access to our ferret room, pretty much 24/7, and boy do they like the freedom! Sam, however, is not content with just one room. (and thier room is bigger than mine!) He likes to sit at the door with his head on his paws and wait until someone takes pity on him and gives him hugs and cuddles.
Also, the difference in amount of freedom has, (I think!) made them get a little lazy...except at night, when its isn't unheard of to wake up to something crashing onto the floor. Otherwise, they do seem to be sleeping more and expending less engery. Also, i can't seem to figure out what toys Sam likes to play with. He doesn't seem to be interested in any that we have, except the tunnel.

Monty, on the other hand, loves to play with anything and everything, from boingo balls to the rice box to the squeeky mouse, to socks and feet. He is always up and about while his buddy Sam is sleeping.
Monty is continuing to lose fur, and a trip to the vet with Jen made it clear that he wasn't adrenal. Yay! I helped him get rid of some of his fur the other day, so now he's even balder. He also has almost no hair on the underside of his tail.

But these two are a great addition to our house, and even the cats seem to like them!
