MEDIA RELEASE

Critter Jungle and Fromm invite you to Take The Plunge!

What happens when 1000 Island DockDogs gets together with eight local Animal Rescue organizations? A Splashing good time at an action-packed canine sport, open to dogs of all breeds and pet lovers of all ages!

Take The Plunge is a two-day outdoor festival (rain or shine) which will raise money for eight local animal rescue organizations in Ottawa. This exciting family oriented event will be held on the grounds of the Rideau Carleton Raceway on September 11th and 12th 2010 starting at 9:00am both days and will feature 1000 Island DockDogs.

In addition to participating in, or watching, the dock diving events, visitors to Take the Plunge will be able to browse many local vendors, bid on great silent auction items, meet representatives from local animal rescue groups, test their skill at games and be treated to some exciting animal related demos throughout the weekend.  Admission to the site is $5 per person and free for children under 12 years of age.  Registration fees for your dog to participate in the DockDogs competition are $20 per dog per wave in advance or $25 on-site.

DockDogs is the world’s fastest growing canine sport, involving a 40' dock and 40' pool, water, any breed of dog and a floatable toy. Most DockDogs Competitions are comprised of three main contests; BIG AIR, EXTREME VERTICAL and SPEED RETRIEVE. DockDogs was started in 2000 and is a fun event that is open to any dog.  Not only is it fun for dog owners, it's a great event for the family to watch as dogs compete in each category.

Take the Plunge is being organized by Aussie Rescue & Placement Helpline, Boston Terrier Rescue Canada, Boxer Rescue Ontario, Bullies in Need, Cat Rescue Network, Catahoula Rescue, Collie Rescue Network and Ferret Rescue of Ottawa and Area in order to raise funds for these Ottawa area animal rescue groups.  Each year these dedicated rescues take in unwanted Dogs, Cats and Ferrets, rehabilitate them, and find them new forever homes.  These efforts take a significant amount of time and money to continue operating.  Events like Take the Plunge help ease the financial burden on these organizations.

There are over $10,000 worth of items up for Silent Auction!!  Restaurant certificates (like the $100 Bacalao Nouvelle Newfoundland Cuisine in St. John's NFLD). Ottawa Sentators and 67's Tickets, a Wedding Photography Package, Coffee Maker, Juicer, Tons of gift baskets and so much more!  I look forward to seeing a large crowd supporting local rescues and having fun watching the DockDogs and Demos!!!

On reflection this weekends Take the Plunge event was a huge success.  Today I feel very positive for the future of FRSO, with the Help Homeless Pets organization we can do so much better then our 'firefighting' of the past.  Having met so many other rescue groups at the weekend we know we are not the only ones having a tough time, everyone is finding the same thing, too many abandoned animals and not enough money.  By joining together with HHP, I feel we can only grow.  Thank you to all of our volunteers at the weekend, Erica Stanisci for her time and her superb truffle cupcakes which were a huge hit, Catherine Cross for wrangling The Fraggle. Jess Lough helped with the ferrets and was happy to answer questions. Allison MacAlister of AlliePets for her support and also for adopting our little Jilly.  A special thanks to Lynn Lefevre for helping to organize the whole event, she did a wonderful job and should be very proud of her efforts.  We appreciated everyone who came to say Hi to the fuzzies, they had a great time and were exhausted from all those cuddles.
