My sick little ferret !

Hi,
       my ferret been sick for a long time now like 2 months, i bring ed him to vet twice ( 2 diff vets ) first time they said he had an infection and gives me some blue pills and same goes for 2nd time gives me blue pills also i had the hardest of time feeding him the pills as he doesn't want to eat but bad part is hes still sick ! Ive notice he has blackened molar's big bad black spots that runs under but vet said hes tooth are alright ? tried to wash hes teeth but black spots staid there and he also have you know the go fast to the corner and water consistency crap and he doesn't want to drink anymore also =( Ive notice he does weird sounds when he chew when i manually feed him

Poor little fellow - sounds like you are right and he does have some tooth problems.

Are the vets you saw familiar with ferrets?

If he is having trouble chewing you may want to try some duck soup so he doesn't lose too much weight.

Have anyone had a ferret who had menopose problem and vet gave them hormone treatment?  If so what was their symptoms?

Also has anyone given tylenol or advil to their ferrets and if so how much?

My ferret is 6 years old.  She is sleeping alot (more than usual) seems to show hip problems.

DO NOT GIVE TYLENOLE OR ADVIL TO YOUR FERRETS, if you think your ferrets are sick please take them to your vet.  Trying to self  medicate for unknown illness could lead to a slow or swift, painful death.   

If your ferret is sleepy it could be insulinomic (diabetic), hips problems could be due poor nutrition.  It could also be old age, your vet would know.


If you are unable to afford vet fees please consider surrendering them.

Most ferrets in North America do not experience Menopause because they've been spayed.  If you're seeing hormone related issues with a ferret that's been fixed, then there is a good possibility this ferret is suffering from Adrenal Gland problems and needs to see a vet for diagnosis and treatment.

yesterday i went to see a Ferret specialist really expensive and he gived me 3 medications to give him, today he looks better i tried to feed home some older ferret premium food and he chewed and eated some peices, and also i give him small dose of pedialite seems to be fine for now the poop is more consistent still a bit liquid but not pure liquid hope he goes up the hill and heal =)

Perhaps the some duck soup for a few days to support him until he is stronger, the recipe is on our forum.  Did the vet say what the problems was??
