Here is a map of the park.

For anyone who needs instructions on how to get there, use Mapquest as follows:

Go to http://www.mapquest.com and enter the following for the search:

Address:    riverside & heron
City:        Ottawa
Prov:        ON

This will zoom in on the intersection where the park is.  There are entrances to the parking lot on both sides of Heron Road (we'll have some signs posted to guide you to the right section).

Attached you will find our official Frolic Press Release.

Media Release
August 26th, 2004

Ferret Rescue Society of Ottawa and Area presents the Fall Ferret Frolic!

The Ferret Rescue Society of Ottawa and Area (FRSO) are proud to present the Fall Ferret Frolic in Vincent Massey Park, Section K on September 19th, 2004 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.  This annual event has been adopted by the FRSO to help to educate ferret owners and the general public about these wonderful pets and also to raise funds for the society.

The Fall Ferret Frolic invites ferrets, their owners and curious onlookers to witness a variety of hilarious ferret competitions.  Tube Racing, burrito wrap, human rodeo, sock stuffing, a silent auction, games of skill for the humans, and even ear cleaning and nail trimming are among this year’s events.  Participants will have the opportunity to ask ferret experts about the habits and personalities of these often misunderstood pets.  FRSO will have various pet accessories and both human and ferret treats on sale with the benefits being donated back to the shelter.

FRSO became a registered Ontario Not For Profit Corporation in the winter of 2002.  Their mandate is to care for unwanted, abandoned or abused ferrets.  They are the only animal rescue group in the Ottawa area that aids ferrets in need.  Ferrets that are brought to the Humane Society are transferred to FRSO for special care.  Ferrets are rehabilitated and given any medical attention they require.  All ferrets who are healthy enough are adopted out into carefully screened new families.  Unfortunately, some ferrets that arrive at the shelter are no longer compatible in regular family environments. These ferrets will become long-term residents of the shelter, or will go to special homes.  FRSO has a no kill policy.  The only exception is if it is medically impossible to treat or heal a ferret that is suffering.

Each year FRSO takes in and adopts out more ferrets as they become more recognized and well known.  In 2003, they took in 41 ferrets, adopted out 38 and 2 passed away before finding a forever home.  Their total budget for 2003 was less than $6000, but they expect that in 2004, an increasing number of ferrets and increasing vet expenses will push their needs to closer to $10,000.  Currently, the shelter has 23 ferrets looking for loving homes.  FRSO does not receive any government grants and relies solely on donations and money gathered from fundraising events.  The Fall Ferret Frolic is one of the society’s biggest fundraisers.
